(Santa Ana, CA) – The South Orange County community of Ladera Ranch will be the site of 44 new affordable rental family apartments, a product of a pro-active public/private partnership that was formed to provide affordable housing opportunities for Orange County residents. Orange County Supervisor Tom Wilson will join representatives from Rancho Mission Viejo, Western National Group, Fannie Mae, Keybank National Associates, and the County of Orange Housing & Community Development Department at a cornerstone ceremony for Laurel Glen, a 220 unit apartment community in which 44 apartment homes are being made affordable through assistance from the County of Orange.

(Santa Ana, CA) – Orange County property owners and managers are invited to attend a landlord information session on October 18 to be presented by the four local Housing Authorities – Orange County, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana. Participants will learn how they can benefit from accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, including: reduced tenant turnover, reliable rent payments, limits on occupancy, and free inspections to monitor their property.

(Santa Ana, CA) – Coming off of a year in which 29 teachers purchased homes in Orange County with the help of the County’s Extra Credit Teacher Home Purchase Program, the County of Orange Housing & Community Development Department (H&CD), in coordination with the CEO/Public Finance Office and Southern California Home Financing Authority (SCHFA), announce that $15 million more in home purchase funds are available to assist qualified teachers, assistant principals, and principals who teach at low performing schools.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced through Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s office that the Orange County Housing Authority (OCHA) will receive 820 new Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to be used to provide more affordable housing choices for Orange County’s residents.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Housing & Community Development Department is issuing a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for $10 Million in funds to be used for the development of affordable rental housing. The NOFA will open June 22, 2001 and close December 28, 2001, or when all money is committed. The NOFA is first come, first serve. Preference will be given for new construction over rehabilitation of properties and assisted units must be affordable to individuals and families whose income does not exceed 60% of the area median income (AMI).

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Grand Jury released a report today titled, "Affordable Housing, Light One Candle," which examines Orange County local jurisdictions’ processes, methods, and procedures to accomplish affordable housing goals in Orange County. The Grand Jury commended the Orange County Board of Supervisors for placing the need for more affordable housing as one of its top two strategic priorities.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange received an additional allocation of $15 million from the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee (CDLAC) for the Extra Credit Teacher Home Purchase Program (Extra Credit Program). The Extra Credit Program is a first time homebuying program for eligible teachers, assistant principals, and principals who teach or commit to teach for five years at a low performing school according to the State’s Academic Performance Index (API).

(Santa Ana, CA) – On Saturday, February 24, 2001, residents of Southwest Anaheim and Colonia Independencia, two unincorporated communities in Anaheim, came together to clean up their community by painting the block wall along Gilbert Street from Katella Avenue to the Union Pacific Railroad crossing. The block wall formerly had been a quiltwork of paint colors and graffiti and was identified by residents as a blighting influence upon the communities.

(Santa Ana, CA) – Monte Vista Elementary School teacher Emily Benavides and her husband David were welcomed into their new home today by California State Treasurer Philip Angelides as one of the first borrowers through a new homeownership incentive program for Orange County teachers. The "Extra Credit Teacher Home Purchase Program" offers reduced rate mortgages and $7,500 in down payment assistance to help teachers, principals, and assistant principals purchase homes in the high-cost Orange County housing market as incentive to continue teaching in local low-performing schools.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The Orange County Housing Authority (OCHA) is seeking public comments on its Administrative Plan which contains new or revised policies and procedures pertaining to the implementation of the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. OCHA administers the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program for all cities in Orange County with the exception of Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana which operate their own public housing authorities.
