Ground Breaking First in South Orange County

Supervisor Tom Wilson Helps Inaugurate Future Affordable Housing Rental Units in Ladera Ranch

(Santa Ana, CA) - The South Orange County community of Ladera Ranch will be the site of 44 new affordable rental family apartments, a product of a pro-active public/private partnership that was formed to provide affordable housing opportunities for Orange County residents. Orange County Supervisor Tom Wilson will join representatives from Rancho Mission Viejo, Western National Group, Fannie Mae, Keybank National Associates, and the County of Orange Housing & Community Development Department at a cornerstone ceremony for Laurel Glen, a 220 unit apartment community in which 44 apartment homes are being made affordable through assistance from the County of Orange. The affordability was gained from a $1.7 million redevelopment set-aside loan from the Housing & Community Development Department as well as $25.2 million in tax-exempt and taxable bond financing from the County of Orange. The 44 apartment homes are affordable to families who make less than 50% of the area median income. For Orange County, that figure is $36,850 for a family of four and $42,750 for a family of six.

The 44 apartments ( 8 one-bedroom units, 22 two-bedroom units, and 14 three-bedroom units) are the first of 697 affordable apartment units in South Orange County which the Board of Supervisors have approved loan recommendations from H&CD to break ground. The Board of Supervisors has approved over $9.3 million in loan commitments which has been leveraged by H&CD with other private and public funds. As a result, more than $114 million in funds has been committed to the construction of new affordable housing in Orange County.
