Local Housing Authorities Hold Information Session to Attract Landlords and Property Managers into Section 8 Program

(Santa Ana, CA) -Orange County property owners and managers are invited to attend a landlord information session on October 18 to be presented by the four local Housing Authorities – Orange County, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana. Participants will learn how they can benefit from accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, including: reduced tenant turnover, reliable rent payments, limits on occupancy, and free inspections to monitor their property. Currently, more than 7,000 property owners and managers in Orange County benefit by participating in the Section 8 Rental Assistance Housing Choice Voucher Program (Housing Choice Voucher Program). Alan Daugher, president of the Apartment Association of Orange County and a participating landlord in the Section 8 program, will be the keynote speaker. The federally funded Housing Choice Voucher Program assists very low-income families, elderly, and disabled persons gain affordable housing by offering rent subsidies.

The meeting will be held on October 18, 2001 from 6 to 8 PM at the Garden Grove Community Center located at 11300 Stanford Avenue in Garden Grove. Reservations can be made by faxing your interest in attending along with and your name, address, and phone number to the Orange County Housing Authority at (714) 796-8463 by October 10, 2001.

"In the coming months," stated John Hambuch, Manager of the Orange County Housing Authority, "close to 2300 new families will receive Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers and will be looking to rent units throughout the County. We are looking for new landlords to step forward and partner with us to help provide our residents with safe and decent housing opportunities. The landlords and property managers provide the apartment and the housing authorities will provide the means to make it affordable."

An overview of the new Housing Voucher program will be featured followed by an opportunity to meet with staff from the Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Orange County Housing Authorities. Staff will answer questions regarding program specifics. Refreshments will be served to attendees and door prizes awarded.
