Fair Housing Leadership Award
April 29, 2003
(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Housing and Community Development Department (H&CD) received an Affordable Housing Leadership Award and gained national recognition at the 3rd Annual Fair Housing Leadership Awards Luncheon presented by the Fair Housing Council of Orange County. Held Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Robert Mondavi Food & Wine Center in Costa Mesa, California, H&CD was honored as an organization that has made significant contributions to support the spirit and letter of Fair Housing laws, including the creation of more affordable housing opportunities.

2004 Multi-Year Housing Grant Application Process Announced
September 26, 2003
On august 4, 2003, the County of Orange Housing and Community Services (HCS) Department began the Citizen Participation public review period to obtain comment on the Financial Allocation Policy & and Citizen Participation Plan (FAPP&CPP) for FY 2004-2005. Additionally, the Public Notice mentioned that the County Board of Supervisors will hear public comments on September 30, 2003 and to authorize HCS's use of the FAPP&CPP.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2003 the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the Housing and Community Services Department (H&CS) funding recommendations to seek $11 million in a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) homeless assistance grant competition under the Continuum of Care Super Notice of Funding Availability (SuperNOFA). The SuperNOFA is an annual process and the grant requested by the County of Orange, the lead agency, is a direct result of the County's partnership with cities and hundreds of non-profit organizations to address the issue of homelessness in Orange County.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Housing and Community Development (H&CD) is the recipient of three National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Official (NAHRO) Merit Awards for Program Innovation in Affordable Housing, Community Revitalization, and Resident and Client Services. The Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in housing and community development programs throughout the nation, will be presented at NAHRO's annual convention in Florida in July 2003.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Housing and Community Development Department is pleased to announce a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of the Jackson Aisle Apartments. Developed by Helping Our Mentally Ill Experience Success (H.O.M.E.S. Inc.) in association with A Community of Friends, the Jackson Aisle Apartments is a 29 unit apartment complex designed to serve individuals with special needs.
