Affordable Apartments Break Ground in Midway City

Jackson Aisle Apartments Offer Affordable Housing Opportunity for Special Needs Tenants

(Santa Ana, CA) -The County of Orange Housing and Community Development Department is pleased to announce a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of the Jackson Aisle Apartments. Developed by Helping Our Mentally Ill Experience Success (H.O.M.E.S. Inc.) in association with A Community of Friends, the Jackson Aisle Apartments is a 29 unit apartment complex designed to serve individuals with special needs. To create more affordable housing opportunities, the Board of Supervisors approved a loan that reserves the 29 affordable efficiency units for special needs residents earning 30% to 50% of the Orange County area median income (AMI), or from about $18,000 to $26,000 a year. The project also includes 29 project-based Section 8 Housing Assistance Vouchers that allow residents to pay no more than 30% of their monthly income for rent.

In January 2001, the County approved $744,230 in Orange County Development Agency Housing Set-Aside Funds and 29 rental assistance vouchers as a continuation of the Board of Supervisors’ and Housing and Community Development Department’s commitment to increasing the supply of affordable housing opportunities for residents of Orange County. Overall, the County loan is helping to leverage over $2.8 million in public and private financing for construction of the Jackson Aisle Apartments which will remain affordable for 55 years under the County covenant.
