Rebates Available for Low-Income Older Adult Homeowners and Renters

(Santa Ana-CA) The Homeowner and Renter Assistance Rebate for 2006 is now available. Eligible California older adult homeowners and renters can receive a once-per-year rebate. The maximum rebate allowed for homeowners, based on the assessed value of the home, is $472.60. For renters, the maximum one-time rebate is $347.50. The deadline to complete and return the application is October 15, 2007.

County Honors Hundreds of Volunteers

(Santa Ana, CA) – County of Orange Housing and Community Services Department, OC Partnership, 2-1-1 Orange County, and United Way Orange County have partnered to host a Volunteer Recognition event for the volunteers that participated in the 2007 Point in Time Count of the homeless. The event is scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2007 from 5 pm - 7 pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1855 North Orange-Olive Avenue in Orange. Supervisor Janet Nguyen will open the meeting, recognizing and thanking the volunteers.

County Awarded $10.7 Million For Homeless Services

(Santa Ana, CA) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the County of Orange $10,706,858 in a homeless assistance grant competition under the Continuum of Care Super Notice of Funding Availability (SuperNOFA). The SuperNOFA is an annual process and the grant award to the County of Orange, with Housing and Community Services (HCS) as the lead agency, is a direct result of the County’s partnership with cities and hundreds of non-profit organizations to address the issue of homelessness in Orange County. This collaborative effort has undertaken a regional plan aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness. According to the County’s 2005 needs assessment survey, Orange County residents experience approximately 35,000 episodes of homelessness throughout the course of one year.
