Help foster mutual understanding among residents to eliminate prejudice, intolerance and discrimination, thus making Orange County a better place for ALL people to live, work and do business.

A message from our Executive Director, Rusty Kennedy:

For over 40 years, OC Human Relations has helped make Orange County a safe place for ALL people to live. In the early years, the work was done through the OC Human Relations Commission. As the county grew and the need became greater, the non-profit organization OC Human Relations Council was born, allowing for greater impact.

As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we have benefited from corporate and individual donations for which we are very grateful. Today, we deeply appreciate the funding provided to us by the County of Orange through various grants. While maintaining a solid relationship with the County through our support of the OC Human Relations Commission, OC Human Relations is now entirely funded as a non-profit organization.

As we move forward, we encourage you to continue or even expand your partnership with us. It is essential that we have a solid "human relations infrastructure" in our county. For many, the concept of a "human relations infrastructure" is little understood, but is it as critical as a storm drain is to rainwater. Without relationships built on trust over years, when crises come, society is ill equipped to respond and reestablish calm and safety.

OC Human Relations provides the necessary infrastructure to face challenges that occur through struggles between emerging and existing communities. So whether the crisis is over the death of a severely mentally ill homeless man or the backlash against innocent Muslim and Arab residents after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, OC Human Relations plays a vital, yet sometimes overlooked role in making Orange County a safe place for ALL people to live.

We invite you to learn more about our programs and services and ask for your help to make Orange County safer for everyone. There are many ways you can join us.

Rusty Kennedy, Executive Director, March 6, 2012
