Bringing Waste to the Landfills

Acceptable Waste

 
What types of waste are accepted at landfills?
  • Chemically treated wood waste may only be taken to the Prima Deshecha Landfill (a Treated Wood Waste Manifest form must be completed first. Please click here to learn more.)
  • Furniture
  • Household appliances (residents may bring up to two major appliances to Olinda Alpha Landfill and/or Prima Deshecha Landfill)
  • Household refuse
  • Lumber
  • Nuisance dust (a Materials Regulation Specialist must be contacted first at 714.834.4000)
  • Tree and yard trimmings

Unacceptable Waste

What types of waste are not accepted at landfills?

  • Asbestos
  • Auto-body shredder waste, brake linings, fuel tanks, mufflers and tires
  • Batteries
  • Chemicals
  • Contaminated soil
  • Electronic waste (laptops, flat screens, CPUs, monitors, etc.)
  • Explosives
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Hazardous waste
  • Heavy metal
  • Medical waste (including animal parts and body parts)
  • Liquid waste (moisture content 50% or greater)
  • Paints
  • Pesticides
  • Poison
  • Radioactive material

Contaminated Soil

Dirt haulers with soils that are contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, solvents, toxic metals, or other potentially harmful materials must contact a Materials Regulation Specialist at 714.834.4000 for information on the acceptability of their soils.
