AGENCY TO DEMONSTRATE BENEFITS OF ACCESS TO NEW STATEWIDE COMPUTER SYSTEM

Orange - Orange County Social Services Agency, Children and Family Services Division will show how joining the statewide computer system will benefit the efforts of social workers at 10 a.m. Thursday, 840 N. Eckhoff Street, Orange.

When it goes online with the Child Welfare Services/Case Management System (CWS/CMS) on Oct. 6, Orange County will join the system designed by IBM to link social services and the California Dept. of Social Services in all 58 California counties.

The system provides better identification of child abusers, and the cross-county ability to track perpetrators, as well as better identification of the alleged child victim. The database contains comprehsenive historical information, allows for statewide clearances and greater knowledge of possible violent perpetrators, thereby also increasing worker safety.

Project Director Sylvia Wall, C.W.S. said, "Our staff has received many hours of individual and group training in the software programs they will need to utilize the System. They are ready to use the System as a tool to manage their caseloads; it will provide more information about each family, and it ultimately will streamline their paper work. We also have contingency plans for any unforeseen circumstances.

"The staff really sees the benefit of using the system, and they know that they will have all the support they need when the system goes online Oct. 6."
