Supervisor's Meeting to Air on TV

Supervisors’ Meetings To Air on TV (SANTA ANA) – Tomorrow night begins the first of a three-week pilot program to videotape, then broadcast meetings of the County Board of Supervisors. The three meetings to be taped are those of April 27, May 4 and May 11. The videotaping and production of the meetings are being donated by Time Warner Communications, the television department of Chapman University, and Comcast Cablevision. Tomorrow’s evening meeting begins at 6 p.m. "This is something we need to attempt so we can provide full information to the public about the way we conduct the people’s business," said Board Chairman Charles V. Smith. "It’s harder to do this in Orange County than it is in LA or San Diego because they have the benefit of a single countywide tv station on which to broadcast. Part of our job in this pilot is making sure that everyone in the county has the chance to see the meetings. We’ll collect feedback from the public, learn more about cost and distribution, then we’ll decide how to move forward." The following is a schedule, by cable company, of the air dates, times and channels for the three meetings. KOCE, which reaches all cable and non-cable televisions in the county, will air the meetings during its off-hours, 1-5 a.m. If the length of the meetings exceeds the time available, the tape of the meeting will be completed the following night during the same time slot. The channel on which KOCE can be viewed varies by cable company.
