Community Leaders To Discuss Developing Affordale Housing

(Santa Ana) – Obtaining community and government support for creating affordable housing and homeless shelters will be the topic of the July 17 Continuum of Care Community Forum.

Participants from non-profit organizations, state agencies, Orange County cities and County agencies will attend.

The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., July 17 at the LA Times Mirror meeting room, 1375 Sunflower Avenue, Costa Mesa. Co-sponsors of the meeting are the County Executive Office, Orange County Homeless Issues Task Force and the Shelter & Hunger Partnership of Orange County.

Some of the subjects to be covered are avoiding NIMBY-ism (Not in My Back Yard), developing relationships with local governments and neighborhood associations, plus measuring and documenting success in service provision.

Also on the agenda is a presentation to Sheriff Michael Carona for his support of the armory emergency shelter program.

"We believe this will be a very practical, productive meeting that will provide excellent information to those interested in shelters and affordable housing,’ said Karen Roper, Homeless Prevention and Related Programs Coordinator for the County.

Because seating is limited, guests are asked to confirm attendance by calling 714.247.1207.
