2001 Orange County Community Indicators Report Released this Month

SANTA ANA (CA), (March 19, 2001) - The second annual Orange County Community Indicators report for 2001 was formally released this month to Orange County government, business and community organizations by the project director, Michael M. Ruane.

The report is a compilation of 42 indicators that are grouped into seven categories; economy, technology, education, health, public safety, environment and civic engagement. Special features including an Orange County Image Survey, Census Participation and Senior Wellbeing are also presented. The indicators measure the wellbeing of the Orange County community and present an overall picture of where Orange County is succeeding and performing well, and where there are needs or gaps that should be addressed now to avoid future problems.

"The 2001 Community Indicators Report builds on the success of the inaugural report and includes new indicators for tourism, physical fitness for children, career preparation, and several others." said Ruane, the project director for the report and the Executive Director for the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. "The Indicators report is an unbiased, bipartisan view of how Orange County is doing, that can be used as a tool for government, business and community leaders in their decision making processes that will affect the quality of life for the county's residents."

The 2001 Community Indicators Report is a cooperative, annual report developed and sponsored by the County of Orange, the Orange County Business Council, and the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. Future reports will continue to track the key issues identified in the 2001 report, and include new indicators for emerging issues of interest in Orange County.
