Interim Director Tapped For Permanent IWMD Position
(Santa Ana ) - After serving six months as interim director of the Integrated Waste Management Department (IWMD), Jan Goss was appointed director by County Executive Officer Michael Schumacher, Ph.D.
Over the last 11 years with IWMD, Goss has negotiated long-term agreements between the County and trash service providers in unincorporated areas of Orange County. In the aftermath of the County bankruptcy, Goss negotiated contracts that generate $12 million annually toward bankruptcy relief.
Goss' first nine years with the County were spent as an executive assistant and later Chief of Staff for former Second District Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder.
"Her performance while Interim Director of IWMD made her the likely choice for this position," said Schumacher. "The vision and leadership she has demonstrated are exactly what Waste Management needs in the 21st century."
Goss graduated with honors from the University of California, Irvine with a bachelor's degree in social ecology.
