County Plans Ahead for Potential Katrina Evacuees 

(Santa Ana, CA) – At the direction of Board Chairman Bill Campbell, a multi-agency task force has been meeting since last week to assess resources and develop preliminary plans to receive evacuees from Hurricane Katrina if Orange County is needed as a relocation site. Key agencies involved in the planning are Housing and Community Services (HCS), Social Services Agency, Health Care Agency and the Sheriff’s Department.

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County Board of Supervisors today announced the appointment of Colleene Preciado, a County employee for 29 years, as Chief Probation Officer. She replaces Stephanie Lewis, who recently retired. The appointment is effective today.

(Santa Ana, CA) – Today the County priced the refunding of the 1995 Recovery Bonds. This is the second and final marketing phase of the refunding and restructuring of the County’s bankruptcy recovery debt.

CEO Tom Mauk Appoints Social Services Agency Director 

(Santa Ana, CA) – County Executive Officer Tom Mauk today appointed a leader with nearly 40 years experience in the social services arena to the position of Social Services Agency (SSA) Director. Ingrid Harita, who has worked for the County of Orange for 22 years, will assume the Director’s spot on July 22 upon the retirement of Angelo Doti, the current SSA Director.

County awarded $11.3 million for homeless services 

(Santa Ana, CA) - Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the County of Orange $11,367,654 in a homeless assistance grant competition under the Continuum of Care Super Notice of Funding Availability (SuperNOFA). This is the largest homeless assistance grant in Orange County’s history. The SuperNOFA is an annual process, and the grant award is a direct result of the County’s partnership with cities and hundreds of non-profit organizations to address the issue of homelessness in Orange County.
