COUNTY OF ORANGE RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROGRAM SEEKING APPLICANTS

(SANTA ANA, CA) - The County of Orange Research Assistant Program seeks college students interested in a meaningful internship opportunity working for a member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

The Board of Supervisors oversees approximately 17,000 employees, a $5 billion annual budget, and services ranging from maintaining County harbors, beaches, and parks to conducting elections to incarcerating and prosecuting criminals.

The Research Assistant’s primary task is to conduct an independent research project on a significant policy issue facing the County. Potential topics include: Affordable Housing, Water Quality and Watershed Protection, IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Health Care Access for Children, County Health and Wellness Initiatives, Transportation, etc. Research Assistants are encouraged to be proactive and creative in their research by interviewing County personnel, surveying County facilities, etc. The final report will be distributed and presented to all Board offices and County staff upon completion.

Other duties may include assisting staff in the day-to-day operations within a Supervisor’s office; answering inquiries by phone and through written communications; preparing letters, certificates, resolutions or proclamations; attending meetings or community events; and other essential office tasks.

Interested applicants must be available for at least 15 to 20 hours a week for a three-month period. Applicants must be available to attend a biweekly luncheon speaker series with Orange County Supervisors, Department heads, and other key decision makers.
