Mandatory Evacuations for Canyon Residents 

Mandatory evacuations are ordered for residents living in the areas of Modjeska Canyon, Williams Canyon and Silverado Canyon beginning at 5:00 p.m. Residents will have access to their homes to retrieve necessary items and pets until approximately 8:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. access to the Canyons will be restricted.

Temporary Shelters Available for Animals Evacuated from the Canyons 

Orange County Animal Care Services (ACS) will accept domestic animals from the evacuated areas at the Orange County Animal Care Center, 561 The City Drive in Orange. Animal owners are asked to bring identification, vet information, and any special foods or medicines along with their animals in order to ensure their animals receive appropriate care and they can be reunited with their animals when the evacuation is over.

The mandatory evacuation order for Modjeska Canyon remains in place until further notice. Williams Canyon has been downgraded to a voluntary evacuation status. Silverado Canyon remains under voluntary evacuation status and Trabuco Canyon remains under heightened awareness. Residents returning to homes in the canyon areas are advised to drive carefully due to fog, darkness, and muddy conditions on the roads.

November Modjeska Canyon Rain Event Update 

The mandatory evacuation order for Modjeska Canyon was lifted at 2030 hours but voluntary evacuation status remains in effect. Modjeska Canyon is open only to residents. Voluntary evacuation status is also in effect for Silverado Canyon. There are no restrictions remaining in effect for Williams or Trabuco Canyons. Residents are cautioned to drive carefully due to fog, darkness, wet roads and mud and debris on the roadway.

(Santa Ana, CA)—The Board of Supervisors today finalized the agreement establishing the Orange County Disaster Relief Fund and allocated $100,000 to the fund to provide disaster relief for County residents. The fund, which will be administered by the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF), was formed in response to the recent Santiago Fire and for future disaster declarations.

Agreement with AOCDS Moves Forward 

(Santa Ana, CA)— County Executive Officer Thomas G. Mauk announced today that agreement was reached with the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS). The agreement, expected to soon be ratified by approximately 1,600 deputies, is for a three-year term from October 2006 through October 2009. The Board of Supervisors will vote on the agreement at their October 23rd meeting.

Board of Supervisors Selects Kirkland & Ellis LLP; Defers Retirement Litigation Decision 

(Santa Ana, CA) - The Board of Supervisors on September 18th made no decision to pursue litigation for the 3% at 50 retirement issue. During Closed Session the Board voted unanimously to retain the services of Kirkland & Ellis LLP to examine the issue, report back to them in sixty to ninety days and represent the County in litigation if the Board should decide at a future date to pursue litigation.

Rating Agency Upgrades Orange County Credit Rating  

(Santa Ana, CA) - Standard & Poor’s released a report recently which announced that the County’s long term credit rating was being upgraded from A+ to AA-. The primary reasons give for the upgrade are the County’s strong reserves, reduced liability for the Retiree Medical Grant and the paying down of debt over the past several years.
