Electronic Property Assessment Bill Advances to Governor

(Santa Ana, CA)—Chair Chris Norby of the Orange County Board of Supervisors announced today that AB 1042 has passed both the State Senate and Assembly and is now awaiting final approval by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Todd Spitzer and the County of Orange, allows applications for a changed property assessment to be filed online - reducing paperwork, increasing efficiency, and creating error free data entry. It also provides taxpayers with step by step help in completing their form and allows them to track the lifecycle of their appeal online.

“We are proud of the efforts of our Orange County delegation to modernize and streamline this process,” said Chair Chris Norby.  “This will take our property assessment process into the 21st century.”

Support for passage of the bill included: Cal-Tax, California State Association of Counties, California Association of Clerks and Election Officials, Office of the Assessor of the County of Los Angeles and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
