Underwater Cleanup

OC Dana Point Harbor is planning a fourth underwater clean-up event on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 8:30am-12:00pm.

This underwater cleanup will take place in the East Basin Marina on the cove side between Gangway L and Gangway O. OC Dana Point Harbor seeks certified volunteer scuba divers to search the harbor bottom and recover dropped objects, kayakers to act as support and safety vessels, and volunteers to help with the event. For their entry fee and volunteer efforts, participants will receive a continental breakfast, lunch, and an event T-shirt.

Previous events recovered miscellaneous debris which included wrenches, tools, chairs, a marine toilet, an outboard motor, and two shopping carts.  A significant amount of recovered debris was hauled away for proper recycling or disposal.

This effort is part of OC Dana Point Harbor’s continuing water quality improvement program; the semi-annual event will move throughout the east and west marinas on a multi-year cycle.
