VOLUNTEER IN MAKING THE COMMUNITY A SAFER PLACE

The Volunteer Probation Officer (VPO) Program offers a unique opportunity to be part of the exciting and challenging field of criminal justice. VPO's receive 40 hours of classroom training, two on-site visits to the Orange County Probation Juvenile Institutions and 24 hours of on-the-job training. VPO's are enabled to perform duties similar to those of the department's Deputy Probation Officer. Participants will gain personal satisfaction, work experience and an opportunity to develop new skills in an exciting and challenging field.

Minimum Requirements for VPO applicants:
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be a United States Citizen.
  • Have a valid California Drivers License.
  • Commit to a minimum of 20 hours per month for one year.
  • Have no felony convictions or history which would disqualify you as a peace officer candidate.
  • Pass a background investigation and psychological evaluation.

Volunteer Probation Officers work with and under the supervision of Deputy Probation Officers. The Volunteer Probation Officer program offers a unique opportunity for citizens to be involved. VPO's are provided the opportunity to assist in the following areas:

  • Investigation of adult and juvenile cases.
  • Field monitored caseloads.
  • Making home, work and jail visits.
  • Telephonic compliance checks.
  • Victim contacts and collateral information.
  • Residence and employment verification.
  • Requesting record checks.
  • Providing bilingual services.
  • Working with juveniles in drug treatment programs.
  • And much more!

For more information on the program or to participate, please call the VPO Coordinator of the Orange County Probation Department at (714) 667-7712. We look forward to working with you to make Orange County a safer and better place to live.
