Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP)
As generators of more than half the state's waste, businesses play a major role in helping local governments cut the amount of waste going to landfills. That is why CalRecycle has presented more than 16,436 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) awards to date.
The WRAP recognizes businesses that develop progressive and creative programs that reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. To show the State's appreciation of their efforts, winners of the WRAP award are given a certificate, and winners become authorized to use the WRAP logo in their advertising and promotion. To see a list of of the award recipients click here.
To be considered for an award, businesses send in an application which asks for details about the business' waste reduction and recycling efforts. The applications are evaluated on a set of criteria developed in cooperation with the business community. For more information please visit: http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/WRAP/.
Prima Deshecha Material Recovery Facility
The Prima Deshecha Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is now open! Self-haulers may now take their loads to the new facility for a lower cost than the landfill. Instead of going through the fee station to the landfill, customers should follow the signs directing them to the MRF, which is located just inside the landfill gate. Turn left after entering the landfill to bring loads to the MRF. At the MRF recyclable materials will be removed and recycled, instead of buried at the landfill. By using the new MRF, customers will help prolong the life of the Prima Deshecha Landfill. This also helps to maintain low trash collection fees for residents, and will help the County meet its recycling goals. The operating hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here to see the new facility layout. For pictures of the ribbon cutting ceremony click here.
